Our approach to EDI:

  • Creating inclusive spaces: we create environments and experiences where everyone feels welcome and valued. We are guided by the Equalities Act, ensuring we meet the needs of those with protected characteristics and by adhering to its principles. We respect people's different needs and aim to meet them.
  • Encouraging openness: we actively encourage a culture of openness towards EDI, empowering our team to identify and address any concerns to ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all.
  • Authentic voice: we live by the principle of 'no decision made about me, without me’. We seek to include children and communities affected by our decisions, in our decision-making process and development.
  • Fair representation: we are committed to diversity and fair representation across all levels of our organisation, from our Board of Trustees to our staff, volunteers and partners.
  • Inclusive content: we champion EDI through our actions, ensuring communications, interpretation and activities are accessible and by showcasing and sharing diverse stories, people and projects.
  • Continuous learning: we invest in EDI training for our staff, sharing our practices, successes and challenges to nurture an inclusive culture within our organisation and to influence positive social change.
  • Equitable partnerships: we work with our funders, partners, and stakeholders to advocate for EDI, especially within the science engagement community.

The CEO, with the governance of the Board of Trustees, oversees the implementation and annual review of this policy, ensuring our commitment to EDI remains at the forefront of our mission.
