Where Curiosity Meets Commerce: Two Inspiring Conferences at Winchester Science Centre

At Winchester Science Centre, Wonderseekers’ hub for science engagement, we love bringing people together to learn, connect and be inspired. This year, we’ve had the privilege of hosting two standout conferences already — each very different in content, audience and atmosphere, yet both taking full advantage of our unique spaces. From marine innovation to primary education, the Centre has proved itself a dynamic home for events that spark discovery.

The 70th Marine Measurement Forum for Ocean Business

In January, we were delighted to welcome professionals from across the marine industry for the 70th edition of the Marine Measurement Forum (MMF), hosted for Ocean Business.

The 168-seat Planetarium became an inspiring venue for presentations and Q&A sessions. Meanwhile, our exhibition floors and café areas provided vibrant spaces for networking, refreshments and industry conversations.

Delegates also had the opportunity to explore our handson exhibits, adding a layer of playful discovery to their day.

As a special highlight, guests enjoyed a presenterled planetarium show delivered by one of our knowledgeable Inspirers — a seamless and fascinating way to connect the worlds of sea and space, and to demonstrate how the forces of the moon and beyond shape our oceans.

It was fantastic to see discussions unfolding at the crossroads of marine science, technology and our wider universe.

Hampshire’s Inaugural Primary Science Conference

Hampshire County Council exclusively hired the Science Centre in January for a day dedicated to curiosity, connection and handson science. We welcomed 130 primary school teachers for a packed programme spanning every corner of our venue.

Once again, the Planetarium set a dramatic scene for arrival speeches and a live presenter-led show, while our smaller classrooms became hubs for immersive breakout workshops. Guests also enjoyed time exploring our interactive exhibits — including our brandnew Lunar Walkthrough.

The result? A dynamic, freeflowing event that truly brought science learning to life.

And the feedback says it all…

  • “The best venue I’ve attended for a professional conference.”
  • “Exploring the exhibits made the day memorable.”
  • “Staff were calm, supportive and nothing was too much trouble.”
  • Planetarium: “Beautiful visuals… the presenter’s passion was contagious.”
  • Lunar Walkthrough: “Hands on, engaging and so knowledgeable.”
  • Minibeast Workshop: “Brilliant activities – my class would love these!”

We were proud to host a day that celebrated the educators shaping the next generation of thinkers, explorers and innovators.

A Venue for Every Kind of Discovery

From teachers exploring classroom science to marine professionals navigating innovation, these two events show just how versatile Winchester Science Centre can be.

Whether it’s a full venue takeover, a specialist industry forum or a conference with a twist, our spaces are designed to make learning and connection unforgettable.

If you're looking to make an impact with your next event, we’d love to help you bring it to life.
