Toby is from a medical family and, growing up in South East London, he was fascinated by how things worked. This led to a career in medical engineering, working for start-ups in the UK and Silicon Valley.

He founded several companies that developed products, including bone growth simulators and low-cost ventilators for use in the pandemic. His new diagnostics company, IFAST, is developing a test that will enable patients to receive correct antibiotics in just 4 hours – it currently takes 48 hours.

Toby is passionate about helping young people from under-privileged backgrounds access careers in STEM. He recently completed 7 years as a Trustee and Deputy Chair of EngineeringUK and has served as Chair of Governors of his local primary school as well as many other boards and subcommittees. He is Group Scout Leader of his local Group and successfully led a project to raise £200,000 and build a new Scout hut.

Toby has been Chair of Trustees since 2016 and also sits on the Nominations and Remuneration Committee.
